If you are looking for how much a rhinoplasty costs in Colombia, you will not find a figure on this page, and I want to explain why.
A rhinoplasty does not have a list price: it has a quote that is put together after seeing your nose. What I can give you here is what really helps you decide: which factors move that price, what a complete quote should include, and which signs indicate that something does not add up.
Why I do not publish surgery prices
I do not publish surgery prices for two reasons.
The first one is ethical and professional: the scientific society I belong to advises against publishing prices, because it turns a medical act into a shop-window product. Surgery is not bought from a catalog.
The second one is practical: any figure I put here would be false for most of the people who read it. The real price depends on your anatomy and on what needs to be done in your case, and that is only known after examining you.
What factors define the price of a rhinoplasty
These are the factors that really move the price of a rhinoplasty:
Whether it is primary or revision. A nose that has never been operated on is a different scenario from a nose with previous surgeries, scar tissue and an altered structure. The second one takes more time and demands more resources.
Whether it needs grafts. When the cartilage from the septum is not enough to provide support, a graft from another area is required, including the rib. That changes the surgical time and the complexity of the procedure.
Whether it is only cosmetic or also functional. Correcting a deviation of the septum together with the shape of the nose is a more extensive procedure than a purely cosmetic rhinoplasty.
The surgical time. It is the variable that brings all of the previous ones together and the one that determines the cost of the operating room and anesthesia.
The team and the institution. A licensed operating room, an anesthesiologist, specific instrumentation and staff. This is not an item where cutting costs is advisable.
The follow-up. The recovery check-ups and the support throughout the process are part of the treatment, they are not an extra.
What a complete quote should include
When you receive a quote, check that these points are clear:
- The surgeon’s fees
- Anesthesiology fees
- Cost of the operating room and of the institution where it is performed
- Materials and supplies for the procedure
- Required preoperative tests
- Recovery check-ups included and for how long
- What happens if a later adjustment is needed
If any of these points is missing, ask about it before you decide. The difference between two quotes is almost always in what one of them is not counting.
When a low price is a warning sign
A price far below the usual one is usually explained by one of these reasons: the procedure is not performed in a licensed operating room, there is no anesthesiologist, the person operating is not a certified plastic surgeon, or the quote leaves out items that show up later.
It is worth verifying two things directly before any commitment: that the person who is going to operate on you is a plastic surgeon with current certification, and that the institution where the procedure will be performed is licensed. Both can be checked in the official registries.
Correcting a poorly done surgery costs more than doing it well the first time, and it is not always possible to return everything to the starting point.
How your quote is defined in the consultation
In the consultation I examine your nose on the outside and on the inside, and we assess what bothers you and what is possible to achieve with your anatomy. The surgical plan comes out of that: whether you need grafts, whether there is a functional component, how much operating room time it requires.
With that plan defined, you receive a detailed quote for your case, with everything it includes. There are no surprises afterward, and there is no pressure to decide on the spot.
About financing
There are payment alternatives and they can be discussed in the consultation. I prefer to address them after you are clear about what your case needs, and not before, because the decision to have surgery should not be made on the basis of a monthly installment.
